Offering five distinctive championship golf courses, Kiawah Island Golf Resort sets the standard by which all other golf resorts are measured. The Ocean Course gained international fame almost the instant Pete Dye completed his design masterpiece, as the U.S. team secured a nail-biting final-hole victory over Europe in the 1991 Ryder Cup. Since, the course has witnessed other memorable major tournaments, most notably the 2012 PGA Championship, in which a young Rory McIlroy set the record for margin of victory. The course anticipates similar fireworks when it welcomes the field back for the 2021 PGA Championship. Osprey Point, a Tom Fazio design, features a dramatic landscape traversing rolling, generously proportioned fairways and greens enhanced by a prevalence of water. Jack Nicklaus Turtle Point, noted for its characteristic tight fairways, tests the mind more than the muscles. Gary Player's Cougar Point – the island's first course – winds through a progression of settings through maritime forest, along the breathtaking marsh bordering the Kiawah River and through stands of mature live oaks. Clyde Johnston's Oak Point, carved from a former cotton plantation, is characterized by rolling topography punctuated by a picturesque set of riverside finishing holes.
