Join PBS star and chef Vivian Howard for Vivian’s Book Club, a salon-style series that hosts friends and colleagues who are authors from across genres and disciplines at Lenoir in downtown Charleston. The next event features slow design pioneer Natalia Chanin at 2 p.m. Feb. 12. Tickets cost $75.
Each afternoon begins with a cocktail and following the conversation, we’ll have a book signing and meet-and-greet with food and beverage inspired by the book. The next event features Natalie Chanin, founder of Alabama Chanin, a lifestyle company producing well-designed and thoughtfully made goods for the person and the home. The company uses organic and sustainably sourced cotton fabrics along with repurposed and reclaimed materials. Chanin started the company in early 2000 with the creation of hand-sewn garments made from cotton jersey t-shirts. Alabama Chanin is a leader in elevated craft due to a dedication to tradition and locally sewn garments and goods—both hand and machine-sewn. The company is made up of makers and educators, working to elevate and merge design, craft, and fashion. We’re delighted to celebrate the release of Natalie's sixth book: "Embroidery: Threads and Stories from Alabama Chanin and The School of Making.”
