The Room Film Screening

The Charleston Music Hall is thrilled to present "one of the worst films ever made," The Room, on November 7th at 7:30 pm in anticipation for the upcoming release The Disaster Artist on December 1.

"In 2003, an independent film called The Room -starring and written, produced, and directed by a mysteriously wealthy social misfit named Tommy Wiseau - made its disastrous debut in Los Angeles. Described by one reviewer as "like getting stabbed in the head," the $6 million film earned a grand total of $1,800 at the box office and closed after two weeks. Ten years later, it's an international cult phenomenon, whose legions of fans attend screenings featuring costumes, audience rituals, merchandising, and thousands of plastic spoons (Amazon)." Local comedian, writer, and all around amazing human Jessica Mickey lent us her thoughts about this piece of cinematic history stating, "There's something to be said of The Room - a beautiful disaster of cinema, fueled by a severe lack of skill and competence combined with bombastic ambition” in the context of today. Tommy Wiseau is as mysterious as he is incoherent, leading you to wonder if this is just a prolonged con of performance art. As the writer, director, producer, and star of The Room, he is an outsider forcing his way onto a stage not meant for him - ”it's amazing what a questionable budget and delusions of grandeur can do for one man."
