The Gibbes Distinguished Lecture Series ft. Maya Lin
Event Details
The Gibbes Museum of Art is thrilled to present Maya Lin as the 2018 Distinguished Lecture Speaker.
Artist, designer, and environmentalist, Lin interprets the natural world through science, history, politics, and culture, creating a remarkable and highly acclaimed body of work in art and architecture. She created her first work, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, as a 21-year-old undergraduate at Yale University. Following her early success, Lin designed seminal artworks such as the groundbreaking four-acre earthwork for the Storm King Art Center in New York and the 11-acre A Fold in the Field for Gibbs Farm in New Zealand. Her current project, What is Missing?, is a multi-dimensional memorial that uses installations, video, and an interactive website to call attention to the mass extinction of species happening around the world.
