Dr. Nicholas Butler, Charleston County Public Library Historian, will share his latest findings on Sergeant William Jasper whose legendary exploits began at the battle for Sullivan's Island in June 1776 when he bravely rescued and hoisted the fallen flag of South Carolina. Since his untimely death at the siege of Savannah in October 1779, historians have found few facts about his origins and family. Jasper is now remembered on the new South Carolina quarter.
