In cooperation with the League of Women Voters Charleston Area, PURE Theatre is proud to announce the commission of a world premiere play about the life of Charleston native Septima Clark. Septima will run from March 9 to April 1 at the Cannon Street Arts Center.

It is the day of Septima Clark’s 125th birthday. Septima, with the help of some old friends, reflects not only on her work as a Civil Rights leader and educator, but also on the moments of her life that shaped her into one of the most important figures in American history and inspired Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to call her the “Mother of the Movement.”

Septima is directed by Sharon Graci, co-founder and Artistic Director of PURE Theatre.

Tickets range from $35 to $45. There will be two Pay What You Will Performances on March 9 and March 15. There are a limited number of $10 tickets available at the door before every performance. Depending on availability, student rush tickets are available for $10 at the door before performances. Septima is also available through the All-Access Flex Pass, which includes tickets and reserved seats to every show along with a host of other benefits.

Additional information about Septima and the All-Access Flex Pass can be found on PURE’s website at puretheatre.org or by calling the box office at 843.723.4444 (Tuesday through Friday 1:00 am - 4:00 pm).

This production is sponsored by Motley Rice. This project was funded in part by the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs and the City of North Charleston Cultural Arts Program through their joint administration of the Lowcountry Quarterly Arts Grant Program and the South Carolina Arts Commission which receives support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the John and Susan Bennett Memorial Arts Fund of the Coastal Community Foundation of SC.
