This nationally-recognized event commemorates the ceasefire and forced evacuation of Britain’s occupying armies from their Southern Army Headquarters in the capital city of Charlestown, South Carolina on December 14, 1782 - a momentous event that resulted in the British Parliament granting American Independence to all 13-colonies two months later. Charlestown was liberated after a 31-month occupation and an elected- government confederated with the United States was installed.
This is a family-friendly, Patriotic opportunity to see living Revolutionary War history and hear Revolutionary Charleston’s story of liberation. The 2nd South Continentals and the 33th Regiment of Foot will be led by the esteemed Washington Light Infantry in a simulation of the British Army Evacuation march to their five fleets of ships in the harbor escorted by the Continental army.
