One80 Place Invites Community to Turkey and a $20 Donation Drive-Thru

A fun and festive kickoff to the holiday season awaits those who drive-thru and drop off a "Turkey and a 20" at One80 Place's annual donation drive Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2016.

Designed with convenience in mind, drivers will be routed through the One80 Place grounds, encountering local personalities as they make their way to the drop off point. Starbucks coffee and pastries will be available there as a "thank you".

Giving is even more fun with giveaways: contributors who donate a Turkey and a $20 (or any other combination of frozen protein and hard cash) are eligible to win a one-night stay at a hotel in the Market. Just drop a business card in the bucket (those without a business card can complete a form).

Turkey is the sign of the season, but One80 Place encourages the donation of other proteins (ham, beef, pork, etc.), as well as monetary gifts, non-perishables, canned goods and personal items.

The nonprofit collected about 500 turkeys and $20,000 last year, which nearly filled the Bakker Family Donation Center at 35 Walnut Street and enabled One80 to serve 5,600 meals in 2015-2016.

CEO Stacey Denaux hopes the presence of local celebrities and a giveaway encourages even more participation this year.

"One80 planned this event to ensure that contributors enjoy themselves in the short time it takes to drive through and drop off," she said. "We witness the generous spirit of the local population year-round, but this annual event brings the Charleston community together right when our guests need their help the most."
