World-famous tenor Rodrick Dixon returns to Charleston to perform with the Charleston Symphony, singing Benjamin Britten's Saint Nicolas. Additionally, pianist Jihye Chang performs Felix Mendelssohn's delightful Piano Concerto No. 1. Unlike many other young prodigies of his era, Mendelssohn's parents did not try to capitalize on his talent, instead giving him the opportunity to experiment on his own. As a result, Mendelssohn began composing at age 12, published his first symphony at 15, and wrote his Piano Concerto No. 1, now a cornerstone of his repertoire, at age 22 while traveling through Italy.
November 16 & 17 at the Gaillard Center.
