Love and Southern Discomfort

Produced by a partnership between South of Broadway Theatre Company of North Charleston and Patton Daye Slater Productions”, the mainstage winter show, Love and Southern D!scomfort, will have its world premiere on January 11-12, 2020, at The Charleston Music Hall, beginning a process of incubating the show for Broadway. Created by Monica Patton with music and lyrics by Bobby Daye and featuring Tony Award Nominee Felicia P. Fields from The Color Purple and Dreamgirls, soulful gospel, sultry R&B, and finger-snapping pop help weave an uplifting and compelling tale of an old-money African-American family torn apart by the devastating effects of addiction, untreated mental illness and... a secret, better left untold.

"Bobby and I have spent much of our career performing on stage, a medium of the arts that floods audiences with visual, aural, and emotional stimuli. Therefore we didn't want to simply write a musical, but instead craft an engaging, cinematic experience that keeps theatergoers heavily invested in the Dejoie family and their exploits." said Monica Patton, writer, "Love & Southern Discomfort."
