In 2016, Drayton Hall began the Drayton Hall Reimagined Campaign which culminated in the opening of the new Sally Reahard Visitor Center. Constructed around an ornamental historic garden designed by renown landscape designer Sheila Wertimer, it was the gift of Ben and Cindy Lenhardt to Drayton Hall Preservation Trust and all future generations of visitors.
With both past and future front of mind, plant selection for the Lenhardt Garden was carefully undertaken with Eric Becker, Manager of Historic Landscapes, from Charles Drayton's diaries and other Drayton family documents. Ben Lenhardt participated in the final plan and installation of this 18th century inspired garden which has blooms in all seasons and contains some rarely seen plants.
A great deal has been learned in the year since the Lenhardt Garden opened to the public and this talk will discuss the garden's beginning and the considerations and developments in its first year of life followed by a tour of the Garden.
Join us for a talk and tour at 3 pm followed by a reception.
