JOHN LAURENS WAR premiere screening

While fighting the American Revolution, as a top aide to General Washington, young brilliant, Colonel, John Laurens, from Charleston, the son of a slaveholder, passionately fights to end slavery and British tyranny ninety years before it ended in his nation. He cannot imagine starting a new nation with slavery. His adventures include advocating for recruitment of thousands of slaves into the Continental Army for their freedom after their service. He fights a duel for the honor of General Washington, helps secure support from the King of France and was killed in ambush by the British in 1782.

Funded in part by a major grant by the SC Humanities, this adventure film has won six international film awards. Shot on 8 local historic sites in Charleston and South Carolina, including Charlestowne Landing, The old Exchange & Dungeon, and the Governor's House Bed & Breakfast.
