Homage Dinner at The Vendue

The Vendue, Charleston's Art Hotel, is pleased to announce the opening of Homage this April. Art Director, Emily Rigsby, is a passionate art historian and has themed the show is based on her passion for the subject matter and in the context of contemporary art. Homage will feature work from 30 artists from around the country. The exhibition is based on the premise that every artist has endless inspiration - that every work of art that an artist has seen has probably influenced or inspired them in some way. With Homage, Emily asked each participating artist to choose the one artist they identify as the most inspiring to them and their work. She challenged them to pay homage to their inspiration by selecting one of their works and use that to reimagine it in a way that would make their inspiration proud. Emily states, "It is my hope that every artist will be able to take this in a direction that fits their own medium, composition, technique, style, symbolism, current events." Among the participating artists are Susan Harrell, David Michael Bowers, Molly B. Right, and Lulie Wallace.


In an effort to foster a connection between the participating artists and the public, The Vendue has organized two events in correlation with the opening of Homage. On Wednesday, April 5th from 7-9pm, Drawing Room will host a preview dinner which pairs four of the participating artists with a thoughtfully curated menu by renowned chef, Forrest Parker. The featured artists will speak about their interpretation of the theme and their creative process. The following night, Thursday, April 6th from 6-8pm, The Vendue will host the opening reception for Homage and will feature live music, cocktails, and passed hors d'oeuvres.
