The Church Street Tour, 5:30-8:30 p.m., is part of Historic Charleston Foundation's acclaimed Festival of Houses and Gardens and features private sites rarely on tour. Church Street, sometimes called the "most romantic street in America," is a visible record of Charleston history. It was established as one of the city's original streets in the Grand Modell, the earliest plan for the city made in 1672. After Charleston's devastating fire of 1740 and a hurricane in 1752, Church Street became a site for the emerging "Charleston single house" form as well as impressive Georgian double houses built by wealthier citizens.
