Calabriation's a.k.a. Starving Artist Supper Club

We have an upcoming dinner series called "Calabriations" a.k.a. the Starving Artist Supper Club. The theme is to highlight local visual artists in a ticketed experience. I will be teaming up with artists to do dinner and a show. The menus for each event will be inspired by the artist that we celebrate for that night, their nostalgic food choices growing up, the way they stylistically place color or lack thereof, and their overall motif will influence the different dinner's menus. The artist and I will also collaborate on the physical menus artwork much like we did in the past with Isabel Bornstein. I will attach a few examples below. At each event the venue will be set with artwork for display from the celebrated artist and patrons will have the opportunity to purchase the pieces after the supper.

For example, at the first supper we will be working with Justin Morris from @FollyHood and in his photos you see the sea and our interaction with it. In his light work one finds a lot of contrast. I can interpret that as black and white dishes literally food dyed with activated charcoal or squid ink or a lighter coconut crema comes to mind, alternatively my interpretation could be as palate contrasting dishes that are sweet & sour, salty & sour, or savory & sweet.

I think that you and your team may get a kick out of this series and I am thrilled to be bringing it to Charleston with our history of being a culinary capital as well as a renowned art hub. The two together seem as classic as salt n' pepper.

The first four events will be held at Union Station in downtown.

June 10th, Justin Morris @FollyHood
July 1st, Nathan McClements @NeMcClements
July 10th, Maggie Mazza @Maggels_
July 24th, Lauren Ridenour @LaurenRidenour_Art

Upcoming artists with dates TBD and secret locations;

Patch Whisky @PatchWhisky
Will Harvey @Revilo_Stuff

Looking forward to hopefully seeing you at some of these events and I'd appreciate you sharing the idea with folks.

Sincerely,

Chef Graham Calabria
