Broadway Cabaret Series: Melissa Mitchell

Charleston Playhouses Broadway Cabaret Series will feature Broadway performers, Equity members from across the country, and local professionals, on the beautiful Chapel Theatre stage in downtown Charleston. Following the time-honored structure of Cabaret performances, each evening will be a themed original work curated by the artist, featuring music and storytelling in an immersive and intimate experience. The evenings performances will be followed by a musical theatre performance Masterclass, open to the public, where select students will get the opportunity to perform for and receive feedback from the artist, as well as partake in a Q&A session. Sponsored by the CofC Department of Theatre and Dance, Charleston Playhouses Broadway Cabaret Series will not only be a source of professional entertainment for our community, but will also provide invaluable education and access for our local students, the next generation of theatre professionals.

Melissa Shevae Mitchell was born and raised in San Diego, and spent every other summer visiting her extended Family in Charleston. She has worked in theatre professionally across the US, as well as working extensively in theatre education. Before the pandemic she spent 3 months in Shanghai teaching musical theatre to kids. Once Covid hit, she decided to leave NY, where she had resided for 5 years, and come to Charleston to be closer to her Family. Select regional credits include Sunset Boulevard (Mary), starring Tony-Award-Winner Alice Ripley, and A Christmas Carol (Ens. u/s Dilbur) at North Shore Music Theatre, Titanic (Katherine McGowan), Miracle on 34th Street (Doris Walker), Mary Poppins (Miss Lark, u/s Mrs. Banks, u/s Miss Correy, u/s Miss Andrews), Bridges of Madison County (u/s Francesca), Legally Blonde (u/s Elle) at ABT, and Sister Act (Ens) at The Palace Theatre. She is beyond grateful to have a theatre like Charleston Playhouse coming onto the scene, and she can't wait to see what kind of magic they will create! BA in Musical Theatre from LU.
