Cannon Green chef Amalia Scatena welcomes chef Kelly Fields of Willa Jean in New Orleans for a "Big Gay Brunch," benefitting the 7th annual Charleston Pride Festival. Guests can enjoy live music, food stations and raffle prizes, with a portion of proceeds from all ticket sales going to Charleston Pride. The Big Gay Brunch is the first event of its kind in Charleston, bringing together Charleston's vibrant food and beverage scene, the LGBTQ community and supporters.
Fields is a renowned pastry chef and Charleston native. She started her career in Charleston at Circa 1886 and worked under New Orleans famed chef Josh Besh as the Executive Pastry Chef for the Besh Restaurant Group before opening Willa Jean. Her southern-inspired eatery employs a majority of LGBTQ employees.
"We are so excited about the Big Gay Brunch, a fundraising event that is a chance to raise much needed funds for Charleston Pride so that we can continue to expand our programming," said Chase Glenn, executive director of Charleston Pride . "We are grateful to our host Cannon Green, who has made a concerted effort to support the local LGBTQ community since opening, putting themselves on the forefront of diversity and inclusion within the food and beverage industry in Charleston."
