Things To Do
Dining
Nothing says island living like a meal at the Salty Dog, a Seabrook institution for more than three decades.
Seabrook Island History
Prior to its tenure as a peaceful seaside escape, Seabrook Island boasted a rich history, spanning Colonial origins, pirate dramas, and wartime conflicts. The island is named for Robert Seabrook, a businessman, landowner and politician who arrived from England in 1679 (and was once convicted of trading with pirates). Generations later, Seabrook’s descendents sold the island in 1863—for what turned out to be worthless Confederate paper. More than a century (and several owners) later, Seabrook Island was finally incorporated in 1987.
Wild Wonders
This private barrier island is home to lush maritime forest, serene marshes and pristine beaches. A haven for locals and wildlife alike, Seabrook boasts an Audubon International Green Community Certification (the first ever in South Carolina), as well as a full-service Equestrian Center offering one of the few beach rides on the East Coast.
