For CJO’s second show of its fifth anniversary season, Maestro Charlton Singleton returns with Basie, presenting music from the album The Complete Atomic Mr. Basie.
The 1958 critically acclaimed recording is widely considered Basie’s best. The album name speaks for itself, featuring epic arrangements by the legendary Neil Hefi. From the smokin’ swing of “The Kid from Redbank,” to the stealth swagger of “Midnite Blue,” the simple beauty of “Li’l Darlin’,” and the great proficiency and precision of “Whirly-Bird,” this show is certain to be nothing short of atomic.
