Getting to and from the airport

The airport is located approximately 11 miles from downtown Charleston and is easily accessible by car, taxi, shuttle and bus (CARTA).

Buses (CARTA)

The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) offers bus service to and from downtown Charleston and the airport via the North Area Shuttle (NASH) Express for $3 per person per trip. The CARTA stop is located outside of Baggage Claim.

The route runs every hour on the hour from 8 a.m. to midnight. The route makes no stops when traveling from downtown to the airport. It makes stops at the North Charleston Visitor Center and Tanger Outlet upon leaving the airport on the way to downtown Charleston.

Upon arrival downtown, CARTA offers the free Downtown Area Shuttle (DASH) to numerous destinations, including The Citadel, Medical University of South Carolina, Francis Marion Hotel, Charleston Place, the South Carolina Aquarium and the corner of King and Broad streets.

Rental Cars

Rental cars from Avis, Hertz, National, Enterprise, and Budget are available at the Rental Car Pavilion in the airport terminal.

Taxis and Shuttles

Taxis and shuttles operate from 5 a.m. until 30 minutes after the last arriving flight, typically around 12:30 a.m. You can find taxis and shuttles in front of the terminal building, outside of baggage claim. All taxi and shuttle services accept MasterCard, American Express, VISA and Discover credit cards.
