Living in History Lunch Lectures

Living in History is a new lunch and learn series sponsored by the Preservation Society of Charleston. The series presents topics of interest to homeowners new and old who may not have considered the fascinating opportunities for learning to be found within your own four walls.

Learn how an understanding of your home and neighborhood's architectural heritage and history can inform a new build, home addition, or remodel.. How new technology will play a pivitol role in the care of our historic houses. And how becoming a "house detective" can you lead you on the adventure of your life.

Living in History will be presented on four consecutive Tuesdays, beginning, January 12, 2016 through February 2, 2016. All sessions will be presented at historic 82 Queen Street. Lunch is included.

January 12 “ Julianna Falk, "Sleuthing in Your own Back Yard Part 2"
Juliana Falk moved to Charleston in 2010, taking up residence in the c. 1810 Simon Jude Chancognie House. She never imagined the adventures in historic preservation that awaited her! A graduate of Bryn Mawr College and the University of Virginia School of Law, she is the owner of Blankets From Emma.

January 19 “ John Young and Philip Dufford "Building New in the Old City : How architectural history, context and building codes influence building in The Old and Historic District"
John Young and Phillip Dufford of Dufford Young Architects specialize in the restoration, renovation, and new construction of commercial and residential properties. Both John and Phillip received their MA in Architecture from Clemson University and studied at The Daniel Center for Building Research and Urban Issues in Genoa, Italy.

January 26 “ Christina Butler: "Researching Your Home's Architectural Heritage"
Christina Butler is a full time adjunct professor for the College of Charleston's historic preservation department. She also teaches at the American College of the Building Arts. Christina is the owner of Butler Preservation L.C.

February 2 “ Michael Damrich "Futuristic Perspectives on Historical Places"
Michael Damich, Co-Founder of Abovit Aerialography, a FAA licensed aerial content firm specializing in preservation, home and business inspections and real estate marketing. Abovit has been working with the Preservation society to produce high definition 3D models for 2 of the "Seven to Save" sites to gain new perspectives. Michael is a graduate of the University of Alabama.
