Come enjoy a new creative workshop monthly in North Charleston!

August 22, 2015 ● Anything But Vanilla Manila Folder Journal w/ Jen Judd •
Adult students will use a variety of mark-making tools including dyes, paints, and stencils to create journal pages from repurposed manila folders. Under the direction of Jen Judd, local artist and President of the North Charleston Artist Guild, students will also use dyed butcher paper to create a unique seam-reinforcing tape. Finally, using basic book-binding techniques, participants will combine the folders into a fun, bright art journal that's ready to use!

September 26, 2015 ● Sweetgrass Basket Weaving with Sarah Edwards Hammond •
Adult participants will learn the basics of the historical art form of sweetgrass basket weaving with Sarah Edwards Hammond. Hammond, one of the Charleston area's finest sweetgrass basket makers, began learning this unique form of art from her mother at the age of seven and works to pass on the tradition to her own children, grandchildren and others in the community. She is on the South Carolina Arts Commission’s Approved Artist Roster and on the board of directors of the Sweetgrass Cultural Arts Festival.

October 24, 2015 ● Fusiform Felt Necklaces with Marlene Gruetter ●
Designer, author, educator, and nationally exhibited feltmaker Marlene Gruetter will offer step-by-step instruction on how to make colorful spindle shaped felt forms. Participants will then assemble the felt pieces to create unique fusiform necklaces.

November 21, 2015 ● Oil Mixed Media with Madeline Dukes ●
Challenge yourself to push the limits of texture, line, and rhythm in your work by utilizing cold wax, oil sticks, palette knives, and color shapers. Under the guidance of accomplished contemporary oil painter, Madeline Dukes, students will learn techniques to energize their paintings with playful experimentation and expression. Be prepared to play! Suitable for all levels of oil painters.
