Turn Family Vacation into a Prize-Winning Adventure with Charleston Explorers Club

Turn Family Vacation into a Prize-Winning Adventure with Charleston Explorers Club

- Scout Attractions, Collect Souvenir Stamps in a Keepsake Passport and Log Secret Codes to Earn Prizes -

Redeeming the secret codes found in Charleston Explorers Club souvenir stamps is now more exciting with the announcement of new prizes for participants who achieve the levels of Admiral and Elite Explorer. The adventure begins at any official Charleston Area Visitor Center, where families may register children under the age of 18 for the free Charleston Explorers Club program. Upon enrollment, Explorers receive a keepsake passport as well as a list of the more than 30 participating attractions, where one-of-a-kind passport stamps are given upon paid admission and entry. A unique secret code is tagged to each attraction’s emblematic stamp, which Explorers use to move up the Club’s ranks and collect prizes.

Starting April 1, 2011, Explorers who achieve Admiral status, the Club’s second highest rank, will receive a gift certificate to WonderWorks, Charleston-based toy emporium stocked with more than 2,500 products that inspire imagination and creativity. Explorers who continue to collect stamps and move up the ranks are celebrated with Elite Explorer status and rewarded with the ultimate prize—an iPod Touch.

Launched mid 2011, Charleston Explorers Club was custom-designed by the Charleston Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and is the only program of its kind in the United States. Designed to help families embark on an interactive journey through the Charleston area, Explorers Club was launched in tandem with CharlestonFamilyFun.com, a comprehensive trip-planning resource that offers tips on age-appropriate activities at area attractions and makes activity suggestions based on family’s preferred vacation style: adventure, encounter, imagine or unplug. Because the Charleston Explorers Club does not expire, families may map out visits to participating attractions over the course of several vacations and prizes will arrive year after year.

Visit CharlestonFamilyFun.com to watch a one-minute overview video on the program, review the complete list of participating attractions and read the privacy policy with applicable prize stipulations. A sampling of participating attractions includes:

Charles Towne Landing
Adventure is berthed at this historic park on the S.S. Adventure, the reproduction 17th century merchant vessel docked at the birthplace of the Carolina colony. Families can also tour the natural habitat zoo for a chance to see incredible wildlife or recreate an Indiana Jones moment at the park’s in-progress archeology dig.

Fort Moultrie
This colonial military bastion is perched on the tip of Sullivan’s Island, adjacent to the shipping channel where pirates, swashbucklers and military heroes once tread. Kids can examine historic cannons or discover writings by once-stationed writer Edgar Allen Poe at the interpretive center.

Middleton Place
Families are invited to step back in time and envision life on a bustling plantation with a visit to the stableyards, where pottery, weaving, blacksmithing, candle-dipping and open fire cooking methods are demonstrated. Kids will delight at the sight of guinea hogs and water buffalo, or can read the handwritten letters exhibited in Beyond the Fields, a richly illustrated collection of rare images, archeological artifacts and historical documents.

Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum
Smell the nautical paint, hear the wind whistle through the cargo bay, climb the ladders and step onto the flight deck of this mighty aircraft carrier on which great men served our country with fierce determination and protective loyalty.

South Carolina Aquarium
At this underwater world of imagination for curious guppies, families explore the state’s distinct maritime zones, from mountain streams to the gulfstream. Visitors can check out life-sized, aquatic-themed play structures or even come face-to-face with a sea turtle nearly the size of a Volkswagen Beetle.
