Bar Rollins pop-up will have a permanent home on Jackson Street. Described as a “wine dive bar” by owner Chris Rollins, Bar Rollins will focus on natural wine and snacks. What makes them so popular? They don’t take themselves so seriously, pour great bottles, and as the slogan goes, “Bar Rollins Loves You.” While there has been no official opening date, the bar has been said to open soon.

Family-owned Bevi Bene Brewing is a lager focused brewery that also will serve kombucha. The message is simple–to drink well. This means drinking genuine crafted beer and genuine kombucha while enjoying time with friends. The head brewer is creative with his techniques and will include local South Carolina ingredients. Get excited to go visit Charleston’s only lager and kombucha brewery. Bevi Bene Brewing will be officially welcoming guests in June 2022.

The new Bounty Bar is a “little sister” concept by The Royal American. Serving delicious food and drinks, the Bounty Bar is now open replacing the old Wiki Wiki Sandbar. This neighborhood bar opened in April 2022.

With its first location on John’s Island, this burger joint has set out to create a restaurant that the whole family can enjoy. Their goal centers around amazing customer service, dishes crafted from carefully sourced produce and meats, and to make every one of their customers smile. After all, Burgers + Shakes = Happiness. The new location opened its doors in May.

Café Eugenia, a brand-new cafe and gourmet market named after Kiawah Island’s historic avenue, uses locally sourced ingredients to offer an ever-changing assortment of salads, sandwiches, cheese and charcuterie boards, takeaway meals, drinks, and more. The concept has been the dream of Chef Bea Shaffer for years and will be located near the Lakeside Park next to Fuji Sushi Bar & Grill. Cafe Eugenia had their grand opening on April 2022.

Captain Harry’s Blue Marlin Bar is Charleston’s smallest bar with only four bar stools inside. This new bar is located inside the small space on Hutson Alley right between 39 Rue de Jean and Coast Bar and Grill. Despite the small number of barstools inside, there are tables located outside for guests to sit. The bar has canned beers, cocktails and frozen drinks along with fried shrimp, bacon-wrapped scallops and crab dip!
The bar was originally located on Cumberland Street back in the 70s, then moved to John Street in the 90s and now will be back in Hutson Alley. Charleston’s smallest bar opened May 2022.

Cinnaholic’s delicious cinnamon rolls and sweet treats are coming to King Street. All of these fresh baked goods are vegan, dairy and lactose-free, egg-free and cholesterol-free. Cinnaholic will cater to all types of events such as small or large weddings, conferences and conventions. The official opening date has yet to be announced, but is coming soon.

The delicious Holey City Bagels has sold the airstream and moved to 43 Cannon Street. The new bagel location opened its special hand-rolled and water-boiled bagels June 2022.

Islander 71 is aiming to be the bar that describes the way of life in Isle of Palms in the 70’s. Life was easy going and kids rode their bikes around freely, dads drank beer on the beach while moms sunbathed to a golden brown. Good vibes and laughter filled the air and they will fill the air at Island 71 as well. Islander 71 opened May 2022.

Laura will be chef Nico Romo’s ode to his Italian grandmother of the same name. Look for traditional Italian family recipes Romo grew up eating, from bolognese to tagliatelle. Romo operates restaurants in downtown and Mount Pleasant (Bistronomy and Nico), but this is his first in Summerville, which opened June 2022.

Chef Shamil Velazquez, of Delaney Oyster House, will assume the role of executive chef at the Johns Island Minero, as well as retain his position at Delaney. Velazquez says that his vision for the new place is to lean into larger, dinner-style entrees that aren’t just tacos. He recognizes the fan favorites, but wants to offer other options and a larger array of seafood. The restaurant plans to open on Johns Island in June 2022.

Philosophia is a recently opened Mediterranean and Greek restaurant serving dinner only in Patriots Plaza in Mount Pleasant. Started by Justin and Dimitri, the two friends grew up together on Long Island and have been inseparable since 1st grade. Once Justin ended up in Charleston for what seemed like it would be a while, Dimitri joined him and they both worked at the Mills House Hotel. From there the dream of Philosophia came back to life for the two lifelong friends. “This restaurant is built on the foundation of a friendship which holds its fondest memories and experiences looking out over the Aegean Sea, sharing mezethes and white wine, and reminiscing the journey that has brought us to this point.” The delicious restaurant opened April 2022.

John Lewis, owner of Lewis Barbecue, is excited to announce the opening of his new restaurant where he will be bringing a taste of West Texas to Charleston. The restaurant is inspired by John’s childhood, where he grew up on the border in El Paso, Texas. The atmosphere and cuisine is intended to relate to the Western Texas and New Mexico region. The restaurant opened April 2022.

Kevin Joseph, the founder and CEO of Empire Oyster and NYC’s Oyster Week, introduces the world’s only omakase-style raw bar experience right here in Charleston, located in Port of Call-Food and Brew Hall. Raw Lab is not like every other restaurant with a raw bar inside, it is exclusively a raw bar. Serving nine courses throughout the entire meal, one will not regret this one-of-a-kind experience. The unique new raw bar experience opened April 2022.

Rooted is Mount Pleasant’s newest neighborhood wine and beer shop and bar that will carry tip top wines from boutique wineries and breweries from around the world. Rooted will focus on natural and organic products. Rooted Bottle Market & Bar was started by Kevin Regan, Peter Demereset and Bill Hoffman and opened in April 2022.

Everyone’s getting geared up for the new restaurant coming to Sullivan’s Island right next to Co-Op. Sullivan’s Fish Camp will have 1970s beach vibes with everyone’s favorite foods like lobster rolls, oysters, and key lime pie. The new seafood restaurant opened May 2022.

Chef Patrick Owens’ fourth restaurant has opened in Mount Pleasant serving Latin American cuisine. Tierra al Mar offers local seafood and seasonal produce that changes depending on the season. The menu also includes an assortment of tacos, seasonal vegetables and smoked meats and proteins. This new restaurant has been inspired by the travels of Chef Owens. Opened March 2022.

In 2016, long-time McCrady’s chef de cuisine Daniel “Dano” Heinze left for Los Angeles along with McCrady’s bar manager, and now wife, Bethany Heinze. The couple has returned to the Lowcountry with an idea for a new Cannonborough/Elliotborough restaurant named Vern’s. It will be a neighborhood American bistro named after Dano’s grandfather Vernon Heinze. Dano will be the chef and operations manager, and Bethany will run the front of house and the beverage program. Opening 2022.

Weezy’s Ice Cream & Cocktails is a little ice cream parlor that decided to add cocktails. Weezy’s serves over 36 delicious and unique flavors of ice cream with several topping options to add. The parlor is family-friendly with an adult-friendly option of liquor shakes and crafted cocktails. The ice cream shop also has a food menu to enjoy. The new creamery opened April 2022.

The local pre-packed food company is now launching its mobile food trailer after being in Charleston since 2019. Atlyss Food Co. has been operating out of the Ghost Kitchen in North Charleston and is run by Jenny Gaddy. Atlyss works with local farmers like Fire Ant Farms, Chucktown Acres and Wishbone Heritage Farms to create its prepackaged meals. Jenny says that the trailer was the next step in her vision of creating a sustainable business and will allow for new customers to find and learn about Atlyss Food Co.

Co-Op Frosé and Eatery will be opening a new location in Freshfields Village. The cafe will be open daily and serve sandwiches, coffee, and its famous Frosé. Johns Island location opened May 14, 2022.

After a Covid-19 hiatus, the Credit One Stadium is back and better than ever thanks to businessman Ben Navarro. Renovations of the stadium include: a 35,000 square foot stage house that contains flat screen TVs and a golf simulator, 7,000-11,000 additional seats, suites with private patios and kitchen usage, increase in restroom facilities and an upgraded VIP club with a view of Center Court. The stadium is ready to go for this summer’s large lineup of exciting concerts.

Eubanks Park is undergoing renovations to promote inclusivity. This project has been long overdue as they wanted it to start three years ago. The renovations will include two playgrounds, a splash pad and a pavilion. The pavilion is planned to be named after one of the first historic black communities in Goose Creek, The Casey. The goal is to make sure that the playground is accessible for those with a variety of disabilities since not a lot of parks have this. The goal is to have the park finished by the end of the year.

The 30-year-old local music venue is officially back open! The improved venue will feature the following: New air conditioning, a new sound system, an updated green room, new lighting, and an updated bar + facilities. The venue’s capacity has been reduced to 650 to ensure the comfort of concertgoers. The Royal American will run the kitchen, serving up similar menu items to the eatery’s location on the Upper Peninsula. Music Farm reopened its doors April 2022.

Expanding the green space and passive recreational area of Riverfront Park, the Noisette Creek Pedestrian Bridge is proposed to connect the existing park to the north side of Noisette Creek. As part of the overall vision for the north end of the former Navy Base, the bridge is the first piece of infrastructure to tie the two sides of the creek together. It is the city’s goal to transform the industrial, underutilized portion of the former navy base into a bustling mixed-use development while giving the public access to the waterfront of the Cooper River. The bridge is scheduled for completion by July 2022.

Beyond Van Gogh is a new experience that uses still and moving art, showcasing over 300 of the artist’s works. Masterpieces will be freed from their frames and come alive, appear, disappear and flow across multi-surfaces. The experience will make the viewer feel as if they have stepped right into one of Van Gogh’s pieces. The exhibit is open July 16 – September 4, 2022.
