Local Hospitality and Tourism Leaders Honored for Dedicated Service

LOCAL HOSPITALITY AND TOURISM LEADERS HONORED FOR DEDICATED SERVICE

June 2014 (Charleston, S.C.) — The Charleston Area Convention and Visitors Bureau (CACVB) presented nine Golden Pineapple Awards in recognition of outstanding service to the local hospitality industry during the Travel Council Annual Meeting on Thursday, June 12, 2014. More than three hundred attendees gathered at Wild Dunes Resort to applaud the Golden Pineapple Aware recipients and also hear travel industry insights from luncheon keynote speaker Sid Evans, Editor-in-Chief of Southern Living magazine.

Since the CACVB’s inception in 1985, the Golden Pineapple Awards have recognized individuals who promote positive growth of tourism, the Charleston area’s largest industry. This year’s recipients include the following:

Julia Ann Oldham, Lowcountry Park Venues Venue Sales Manager, was honored for ten years of outstanding service.

Joy Halstead, CACVB Graphic Designer, was honored for ten years of outstanding service.

Kathleen Cartland, Charleston Metro Sports Council Executive Director, was honored for ten years of outstanding service.

Michael Tall of Charlestowne Hotels was honored for his demonstrated leadership in business development and guest satisfaction throughout the Charleston Are Hospitality industry.

John Keener of the Charleston Crab House was honored for his dedication to sports tourism in the Charleston area.

Bobby Sullivan of Absolutely Charleston was recognized for his commitment to serving the Charleston area.

Mike Lata and Mark Marhefka were honored for their leadership in advocating the protection of local seafood for generations to come in the Charleston area.

Frank Fredericks of Wild Dunes Resort was honored for his commitment to serve the Charleston Area CVB as Chairman of the Board of Governers.

Additionally, Senator Paul Campbell was honored with the Barrett Larrimore Tourism Leadership Award for his service and dedication to the quality of growth of the hospitality industry in the Charleston area.
