Sweet Southern Summer Escape DAY ONE

Spend the day getting to know your home for the next five days. Perched on the northern tip of Isle of Palms, 17 miles from downtown Charleston, Wild Dunes feels a world away from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. Shrouded by lush maritime forests and miles of pristine beaches, driving up to this property might feel more like discovering a well-kept secret than checking into a hotel.

Check into Wild Dunes Resort, your 1,600 acre oceanfront playground for the next five days. With endless recreation opportunities and world-class amenities, you can find yourself poolside, beachside court-side or course-side all without leaving the property.

The easiest way to explore Wild Dunes is on two wheels. Make your way to the on-site bike shop to rent a bike and spend some time pedaling through the property's miles of beautiful biking trails. Ask the folks at the shop to point you in the direction of their favorite trail or explore a little and find your own path; you're in no hurry.

Once you've worked up an appetite, head to Beachside Burgers & Bar, the resort's waterfront restaurant perched at the end of the boardwalk of the Grand Pavilion. Enjoy al fresco bites and a refreshing tropical drink or frosty beer while overlooking the ocean.

There's no better way to end your day than by standing in the sand and watching the sun sink under the horizon. After dinner, make your way down to the beach for a scenic sunset stroll. Flanked by the Atlantic Ocean and the Intercoastal Waterway, there are miles of unspoiled beach waiting for you to explore.

Sweet Southern Summer Escape DAY TWO

For the next 24 hours, you'll never be without the water in your sights. Play by the pool, paddle through a creek and cheers to a day well-spent.

Make your way to Coastal Provisions, the resort's signature restaurant for breakfast overlooking the pool. Inspired by Charleston's rich sailing history, the airy eatery offers indoor and outdoor seating options and a crave-worthy menu based around local seafood and seasonal ingredients.

Put on your swimsuit and head down to the adult-only pool at the Boardwalk Inn. Want to really feel like you're on vacation? Reserving a cabana by the pool to serve as your private shady spot in-between dips in the pool just might do the trick. Head to the bar for a boozy frozen drink to truly complete your cabana experience.

Take to the water with Coastal Expeditions on a stand-up paddle board to gain a new perspective of historic Shem Creek, a charming and winding waterway that's sprinkled with catch of the day eateries and shrimping boats. If you're lucky, you'll also spot some of the dolphins that call this waterway home.

Named from the local island lore of the "Goat Man" that is said to have lived on a neighboring island, the resort's Salty Goat Bar is a low-key, no button-up attire required kind of establishment. Pull up a seat and stay a while at this charming joint where a tasty collection of local ales and creative cocktails are poured behind the bar.

Sweet Southern Summer Escape DAY THREE

Today is all about taking your time and savoring all that your summer sabbatical has to offer. Unwind at the resort's dream-like spa, soak up some sun on the beach, enjoy a leisurely pedal down a picturesque path and savor dishes that seem to redefine comfort food all before the sun sets.

Make your way down to the resort's signature spa, the Sand & Sea Day Spa, for a luxurious and restorative start to your day. With rejuvenating treatments ranging from warm sea shell massages to rose petal pedicures, you just might want to spend the whole day in this relaxed island ambiance.

Once you've had your fill of spa time, make your way down to the beach to enjoy a few hours on the pristine shores surrounding your resort. Take advantage of the resort's beach rentals and walk out to a reclining chair and umbrella waiting for you.

Visit the friendly folks at the resort bike shop again to pick up a cruiser. Ask them to point you in the direction of the Breach Inlet for a breathtaking ride past lush marshland and with unparalleled views of the ocean all around you.

Once you've pedaled up an appetite, head to the Sullivan's Island Home Team BBQ for a mouthwatering meal in a laid-back atmosphere that appeals to sun-tanned tourists and island locals alike. Grab a seat at the open air bar, order a Gamechanger and a platter and enjoy this informal introduction to 'que culture and Southern fare.

Sweet Southern Summer Escape DAY FOUR

Tear yourself away from the sun, sand, and surf to immerse yourself in downtown Charleston - and just beyond.

Explore the great outdoors at one of Charleston's many greenspaces. Spy all kinds of wildlife at Caw Caw Interpretive Center, wrap your arms around the centuries-old Angel Oak tree, or marvel around the beautifully landscaped Hampton Park with a breakfast picnic basket in hand.

A good summer day should be defined by the number of cold sweets and treats consumed. Take the opportunity for an ice cream cone and a spin around downtown with Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams on King Street or Ben & Jerry's on the Market.

The South Carolina Aquarium is as beautiful as it is entertaining. Over 5,000 animals call this place overlooking the Charleston Harbor home. Meet starfish, sea urchins and sharks before visiting the Sea Turtle Hospital to learn how to protect our ocean friends.

Just a stone's throw away from the Aquarium is one of downtown's few nooks to dine along the water. At Fleet Landing, delight in fresh seafood with sweeping views of the Ashley River. Watch the water closely for pods of dolphins swimming under late afternoon skies.

Sweet Southern Summer Escape DAY FIVE

All good things must come to an end, but in the meantime - delight in a final day of exploration at the resort with experiences both active and relaxed.

Though a little brother to the Links course, the Wild Dunes Resort Harbor Course offers still presents a great - and fun challenge. Its 18 holes are set along the ocean and marshlands... so, in other words - it has a great view to accompany the course.

For your final brunch, pick from a handful of Wild Dunes' restaurants - each with their own charm, special menu, and spectacular views. If you've yet to nosh on shrimp & grits or fried green tomatoes, options at the resort are plentiful. Wash it down with a sweet tea or a mimosa to lock in each special moment.

Work off the aforementioned food with a few rounds of tennis. For 10 consecutive years, Tennis magazine ranked Wild Dunes among the country's top 10 golf resorts. Court time here is complementary - and if you're in need of instruction, take the opportunity for lessons with a pro.

Your departure dinner is in biking distance of home base. The Morgan Creek Grill is a waterfront locale, perfect to soak in one last look at the ocean while noshing on a plate of seafood. Sit outside for a sea breeze, or delight in an air conditioned table indoors, where views are still plentiful.
