Webinar: Conserving Gilt Objects at Colonial Williamsburg
Event Details
Please join Colonial Williamsburg's Senior Furniture Conservator Christopher Swan for an introduction to Conservation in a museum context by way of looking at just one media type: the glittering shiny objects. Objects covered in one of the precious metals will be showcased as we look at projects from our recently opened exhibit, "British Masterworks." Featured among other delights, is the study of and re-gilding of a masterfully carved Elmwood Baroque chandelier, treatments of marble top pier tables, Rococo looking glasses, a coat of arms, folk art sculpture, and even the humble picture frame. Bring your questions about how to protect and preserve your artifacts as we discuss some of the most challenging objects to preserve and interpret.
