The Things We Carry: Contemporary Art in the South
Event Details
The Gibbes Museum of Art in Charleston, in partnership with Spoleto Festival USA, presents The Things We Carry: Contemporary Art in the South, on view May 28-October 9.
The exhibition features paintings, sculpture, photography and mixed media works by a diverse group of nationally known contemporary artists. Together, these artists address the difficult history of the South and the many ways it is manifest today, including responses to the tragic 2015 shooting at Emanuel AME Church in Charleston. The exhibition provides a place where the Charleston community and visitors alike can come together to discuss the city's past and the impact of the Emanuel shooting, as well as celebrate the spirit of Charleston and the community's response to social challenges.
