In their world premiere exploration of Virgil’s Aeneid, Denis O’Hare and Lisa Peterson toggle between past and present to illuminate power dynamics that feel as resonant today as during the fall of the Roman republic. The Song of Rome is a companion piece to O’Hare’s and Peterson’s acclaimed play An Iliad which was presented at last year’s Festival to a wildly enthusiastic response. This world premiere play is co-produced by Spoleto Festival USA.
