Learn to make traditional sweetgrass baskets with the Charleston Museum and basket maker, Sarah Edwards-Hammond.
Mrs. Edwards-Hammond comes from a long line of basket makers and has passed down the tradition to her own children, grandchildren and others in the community. The instructor will share a brief history of this art form, then participants will spend the rest of the class making their own basket as Mrs. Edwards-Hammond guides them and answers any questions they may have. Grab your friends, family, or just bring yourself and learn about an incredibly beautiful craft that has been a staple of culture, art, and history in Charleston for centuries!
