Sidney Outlaw and Warren Jones perform a powerful new song cycle called 26 Ways of Looking at a Black Man by Atlanta-based composer B.E. Boykin, set to the poetry of Raymond Patterson. This piece explores the experiences of Black men in America, touching on themes of legacy, love, resilience, and cultural identity. It’s an emotional work which blends elements of Western classical music with rich cultural nuances from Black experiences.
Also on the concert are works by Brahms, Rossini, and Duparc.
This concert kicks off HALO’s residence at St. Johannes Lutheran Church in downtown Charleston.
