The Race the Landing series is coordinated by the Friends of Charles Towne Landing which is a nonprofit, volunteer-based organization dedicated to perpetuating and celebrating South Carolina's birthplace above and beyond the means and resources given to the park's yearly operational budget by the state of South Carolina. We work alongside the State Parks staff to sponsor events, beautify the landscape, raise material support, and donate our time to make Charles Towne Landing a great place for everyone in Charleston. Since the Series began in 2012, it has raised over $100,000 for the park which has purchased equipment to assist around the park and a wheelchair accessible shuttle cart to be used by park guests.
The volunteers and participants have donated over 1000 lbs of food for the animal enrichment program such as peanut butter, molasses, un-salted/un-flavored nuts, as well as, various cleaning supplies such as bug spray and Clorox wipes and bleach.
