Pop Up Choral Performance in Charleston's Living Room

At The Charleston Place, the Spoleto Festival USA Chorus will perform selections from their Spoleto concerts on June 4 and 10. Programs feature Thomas Tallis’s majestic work for 40 singers, Spem in alium, considered the greatest piece of English early music, as well as works by contemporary composers including David Lang and Caroline Shaw.

Assembled anew each year through national auditions, the Spoleto Festival USA Chorus takes on a dynamic new identity each season, reflecting the diverse voices of its singers as well as the dynamic seasonal repertory. Led by Festival Director of Choral Activities Joe Miller, the Festival Chorus is a professional choir (established in 2021) that builds upon the Festival’s longstanding tradition of exceptional choral music. The Festival Chorus aligns with Spoleto Festival USA’s mission to further the artistic advancement of young professional performers and expands this vision to attract and present a broad spectrum of singers. Each season, the vocal fellows will perform major choral works; serve as the choir for Spoleto’s mainstage operas, with select singers covering both large and small roles; and take part in special projects, such as Music in Time concerts. In 2023, the vocal fellows will perform in the opera Vanessa as well as two choral programs.
