Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum 40th Anniversary

The 40th anniversary event will showcase many of the new exhibits and technological upgrades that have been added to the museum over the last several years. In addition, at noon on the 27th, Patriots Point will launch a new animation series featuring USS Yorktown’s beloved mascot, Scrappy.

History: The USS YORKTOWN at Patriots Point officially opened to the public on January 3, 1976 to an opening day crowd of 2,601 people. Since then, nearly 10 million day visitors have toured the museum, a million students have explored its warships, and an additional 555,000 campers have spent the night aboard the USS YORKTOWN – and slept in the same racks that the crew used. The USS LAFFEY, the museum’s famed destroyer, and the USS CLAMAGORE, a Cold War submarine were both added in 1981.
