Pat Tillman Honor Run

The Pat Tillman Honor Run, which started in Charleston in 2016, is part of a nationwide 5k and series of events that aim to honor the life and legacy of Pat Tillman.

Tillman, a professional football player for the Arizona Cardinals, left his NFL career to enlist in the U.S. Army following the 9/11 attacks. He tragically passed in 2004 in Afghanistan, and the story of his selflessness and sacrifice has since inspired many.

The Charleston event is one of several 5k runs and events organized by the Pat Tillman Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting veterans and military families. The Honor Run series, which includes races in multiple cities across the United States, raises funds for scholarships and programs that support military service members and their families, with a special focus on Tillman Scholars—veterans who are committed to continuing their education and service to their communities.

The Charleston run has grown in popularity, drawing participants who come together to celebrate Tillman’s life, promote community service and raise awareness for the Pat Tillman Foundation’s mission. It typically features both a run and a walk, with participants encouraged to honor Tillman’s commitment to service and sacrifice. The event has become an important part of the local community’s efforts to support veterans and raise funds for educational initiatives.
