Kiawah Island Litter Sweep

Protect what you love at the Kiawah Island Litter Sweep! Join our efforts to stop plastic pollution from entering our waterways and beloved landscapes of the Lowcountry with a safe, socially distanced litter sweep.

Meet at Mingo Point on Kiawah Island to pick up your sweep supplies, including a mesh bag, reusable gloves and clipboard/data collection sheet. Hear from Kelly Thorvalson, conservation programs manager, about plastic pollution impacts facing Kiawah Island and its inhabitants. After, feel free to find your favorite spot on the island to seek out debris. Upon completion, return to Mingo Point to drop off debris and share photos of your findings! Bring a reusable water bottle; a water refill station will be available. As a token of thanks, all participants will receive a reusable bag and stainless steel straw!

The Kiawah Island Litter Sweep supports the goals of Pam and D. Michael Wilson Plastic-Free Waters, the South Carolina Aquarium program aimed at mitigating plastic pollution impacts through outreach, community engagement and conservation fieldwork across the state of South Carolina.
