Jazz in the Garden: Featuring Charlton & Friends

Experience the rhythms, history, and joy of jazz at Jazz in the Garden, a family-friendly program at the International African American Museum. This engaging celebration invites guests of all ages to connect with the vibrant traditions of jazz through live performances, interactive workshops, and cultural explorations.

This year’s program highlights the deep connections between jazz and Gullah traditions, featuring a special Ring Shout workshop led by Grammy Award-winning musician Charlton Singleton. Through the dynamic movements and syncopations of this historic practice, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the Lowcountry’s musical roots. The day continues with a Creative Dance Workshop led by acclaimed movement artist Jordan Maria, culminating in an electrifying performance from Charlton & Friends.

Throughout the Garden, you’ll find food trucks, games, and activities designed for the whole family to enjoy, making this a lively, fun-filled afternoon. Don’t miss the chance to explore the IAAM as well. Museum access is available through ticket purchase, where you can continue your cultural journey beyond the Garden. Whether you’re a lifelong jazz lover or discovering it for the first time, Jazz in the Garden promises an unforgettable afternoon of music, food, history, and community. Event time 11am-3pm.
