In the Company of Animals: Pets of Charleston

Animals have always been part of a human's everyday life, whether worshiped, hunted for food or used as a means of transportation and labor. Over the years, this relationship evolved into one of companionship.

The human-animal bond has long existed in the Holy City and many residents wanted their pets captured by the lens. Highlighting photographers such as Morton B. Paine, Franklin Frost Sams and Chansonetta Stanley Emmons, this photographic exhibit chronicles how Charlestonians spent their time in the company of animals. This exhibit is open April 8 - December 31, 2019 in The Charleston Museum's Lowcountry Image Gallery.
