Halsey Talks: Art & Activism

Join the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art at the College of Charleston for the next installment of Halsey Talks at 6:30 PM.

Traditionally, art and activism have occupied separate domains. Often, art's ambiguity and open endedness lay in contrast to activism's clear messaging. In recent years, many artists have blurred the line between this supposed distinction, calling attention to issues in their work while making museums sites of resistance. How does art function as activism?

For this Halsey Talks, we will be joined by Kali Holloway, journalist and director of the Make It Right Project, a multimedia campaign dedicated to righting social justice wrongs. Holloway is currently organizing events around the country featuring readings, dance performances, and visual art engagements dedicated to illuminating Confederate monuments' ties to white supremacy.
