From Sea to Shining Sea: Inventing a National Narrative with Linda Ferber

The United States has been called "Nature's Nation" because images of American scenery have played such an important role in the development of national identity. Ferber will reflect upon the still-prevailing assumption that American scenery somehow embodies American cultural and political ideals. This is a venerable tradition in the United States expressed early on in the paintings of the Hudson River School as we will see in this exhibition. A book signing will follow the lecture.
