Fred Jamar New Exhibit Opening and Celebration
Event Details
Please join us in Gallery 26 on Friday, October 18 from 6-8pm to celebrate The Vendue's artist-in-residence, Fred Jamar!
Complimentary cocktails and light bites.
Free and open to the public.
Born in southern Belgium, Fred Jamar has been a world traveler and painter most of his life. Fred has lived a colorful life graduating as the valedictorian of his class from the Belgian Maritime College, lived three years at sea, then studied finance, ultimately becoming vice president of J.P. Morgan, and covering the globe. Life took him to early retirement in 1997, where he chose Charleston to begin his new journey as a full-time artist.
Fred has developed a very whimsical color palette that transcends the daily scene into another world through "Prussian" blue skies and balloon-like trees. He paints freely, seeking to capture the feeling of the place rather than the exact representation. To this day, he enjoys the process more than final product.
With a plan of starting a rotating artist-in-residence program, The Vendue invited Fred to take over the studio down the hall for a few months... five years later, we cannot imagine that space without him.
In addition to viewing a selection of his works in Gallery 26, we hope you'll visit the studio for a peek into Fred's process, and to see what's on his easel.
