Conversations with a Curator: Hammered: Charleston Silver and Its Silversmiths with Chief Curator Grahame Long

When the Charleston Museum acquired its first piece of historic Charleston silver a century ago, it launched a major endeavor not only to collect and preserve the city's historic silver, but to learn from it as well. Twenty-five separate silversmith shops were operating (successfully) in Charleston by the end of the American Revolution. By 1820, there were three times as many. Such strong numbers embody the remarkable artistry present among local artisans, and their surviving wares continue to speak volumes.

Conversations with a Curator allows visitors a chance to have an intimate look at an exhibit in The Charleston Museum, hear stories, ask questions and spark conversations. The Museum's collections are both extraordinary and diverse and each Curator-led talk and tour will allow participants to immerse themselves in different areas of Charleston's history.

Included with regular admission to the Museum.
