Join Public Works Art Center in celebrating "Porch Pollen," an exhibition by Emily Furr.

This exhibition will be on view April 30 through June 10, with a reception May 19 from 5:30-8:30 alongside Summerville’s Third Thursday celebration.

About the show:

In my show, Porch Pollen, I construct a feeling and idea of home and offer it up to share with you. I grew up in a little pink house surrounded by trees and ferns on Johns Island, South Carolina. The imagery in my work reflects on a child-like view of growing up on rural Johns Island and the feelings that surround it. There's an emergence of loss when a place that was once home is no longer home; when a place that once held so much importance and life is no longer your place. In my paintings, this feeling of loss is combatted, cushioned, and padded with sentimentality, play, and feelings of comfy-cozy. -Emily Furr
