"A Song for All Seas, All Ships“ the Charleston Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Ken Lam, presents a springtime Masterworks concert dedicated to British composers. The orchestra takes on Edward Elgar's strings masterpiece, Introduction and Allegro, considered one of his finest achievements, followed by "Four Sea Interludes", orchestral interludes extracted from Benjamin Britten's opera, Peter Grimes. The CSO Chorus with soprano Margaret Kelly Cook, and baritone Peter Tomaszewski, joins the orchestra for Vaughan Williams' A Sea Symphony. In his first symphonic composition, Vaughan Williams drew inspiration from Walt Whitman's celebrated poetry collection, Leaves of Grass, and an auspicious vision of a world adrift in a sea of human vanity.
