A Chamber Music “Messiah” - Cathedral of St. John the Baptist

KCP is excited to bring this seldom-performed version of "Messiah" to our audiences - and when it was originally performed, during the Easter Season! Originally composed for the Easter Season, Handel’s autographed Messiah manuscript - and it's Premiere performance in Dublin - contained movements that are not the versions we are familiar with today.
Though it became a larger event over the years, the original Messiah was not the large choral and orchestral affair we often hear performed; quite the contrary, this famous piece first featured a small ensemble of voices and a modest consort of instruments. In many ways, the original Messiah was a very different piece of music, indeed!
In what we hope will become an annual Charleston tradition, The King's Counterpoint is excited to present 'A Chamber Music Messiah' - and each Easter season, we plan to offer The Holy City a different version of this masterpiece of music, presented chronologically as Handel arranged them and in the Baroque style in which they were originally performed! The King's Counterpoint will begin with a combination of the 1741 Autograph and 1742 Dublin Premiere versions of this fabulous work - It's an historic event that we are excited to bring to our Charleston audiences!
