2016 Horticulture Symposium: A Showcase of Garden & Home

Magnolia Plantation & Gardens, the Charleston Horticultural Society and the Charleston Tea Plantation are proud to announce our partnership in presenting the 2016 Horticulture Symposium – "A Showcase of Garden & Home" on Saturday, November 12th. This partnership brings together the heritage of three premier horticultural organizations in the Lowcountry with the shared purpose of raising awareness to the unique history and importance of horticulture in our community.

Renowned horticulture and culinary experts from across the South will gather at Magnolia to share information and give demonstrations for professionals and gardening enthusiasts alike. This event will also showcase local businesses through our affiliated produce and plant sales. Attendees will gain valuable insight into the accessibility of locally sourced produce and how to bring your "garden to table" in order to live a healthier lifestyle.

Karen Lucht, Magnolia’s special events and festival coordinator, said, “This is an opportunity to highlight how the melding of European, Caribbean and African cultures has formed a unique food and garden heritage in the South Carolina Lowcountry.”

Award-winning chef and author Nathalie Dupree and Buddy Lee, inventor of Encore® Azaleas, are among a dozen horticulture and culinary experts who will gather at Magnolia Gardens from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 12.
Dupree will demonstrate the “Art of Southern Cooking” by making pork tenderloin with muscadine jam. Dupree is the author of fourteen cookbooks, which have sold more than half a million copies. She also has hosted more than three hundred national and international cooking shows.

Lee will lead a colorful tour of the Encore Azaleas varieties and provide care and planting tips that will ensure beautiful blooms in spring, summer and fall.
