SWEETGRASS BASKETS
Take special note of the sweetgrass baskets, an indigenous artform and one of the most easily recognizable Gullah traditions. Originally made to winnow rice on the plantations, these baskets have become sought after souvenirs and are even on display at the Smithsonian Institution.

LOCAL TEA
Thousands gather every May at the Charleston Tea Garden for the First Flush festival celebrating the first harvest of the year. You can take a trolley ride through the 127-acre Charleston Tea Garden, the only commercial tea farm in North America, tour the factory and take some tea bags home for a freshly steeped souvenir. The tea can also be found at the Charleston City Market, along with authentic colonials blends, a delicious nod to Charleston's history, created by locally based Oliver Pluff & Company.
