Middleton Place

Middleton Place is an 18th century rice plantation and National Historic Landmark comprising 65 acres of America’s oldest landscaped Gardens, the Middleton Place House Museum and the Plantation Stableyards. The Gardens reflect the elegant symmetry of 17th century European design. Sculpted terraces, parterres, and reflection pools inhabited by swans are highlights of their intricate design. Rare camellias bloom in the winter, while vibrant azaleas blanket the hillside above the Rice Mill Pond in the spring.

Guided tours of the Middleton Place House Museum, built in 1755 as a gentlemen’s guest wing, interpret the Middleton family’s vital role in American history. In the Plantation Stableyards, craftspeople including a blacksmith, potter, carpenter and weaver, recreate the activities of a self-sustaining Low Country plantation.

While visiting Middleton Place, be sure to experience an African American Focus Tour and Carriage Tour. The full-service Restaurant presents Low Country specialties for both lunch and dinner. Find distinctive local and regional items at the Museum Shop and Garden Market & Nursery.
