Penguins Extend Their Stay In Charleston, SC
For Immediate Release, January 2010In celebration of 2010, the South Carolina Aquarium announced today that the four Magellanic penguins, of the visiting exhibit Penguin Planet, will be extending their stay in Charleston by seven months through October 2010. In addition, the South Carolina Aquarium will be permanently adding the up-close Waddle Wagon program to its weekly program schedule, Thursdays through Sundays at 2 p.m. And for the month of February, South Carolina residents can receive a special ‘child admission’ discount to see the penguins and all their favorite exhibits with the ‘Sea and Save’ promotion.
Now staying through October 2010, the four Magellanic penguins live in Penguin Planet, a visiting exhibit located on the first floor. Included with general admission, guests can enjoy these aquatic flightless birds firsthand through the exhibits ten-foot wide window allowing for underwater viewing. Penguin Planet includes children’s interactive learning games, educational exhibits on the effects of climate change in South Carolina and daily feeding programs.
Now, enjoy these tuxedo-clad birds weekly, Thursdays through Sundays at 2 p.m., during the popular Waddle Wagon program. Join educators and staff as one of the Magellanic penguins is escorted through the Great Hall in a special custom-made wagon. See a penguin up-close and snap a picture of you and your favorite animal then head back to the exhibit to see the all penguins receive their afternoon snack.
