Curated by Charleston-based artist Reynier Llanes, this exhibition includes works by more than a dozen Cuban artists.
The artwork, drawn from Llanes’ personal collection, reflects ideas of freedom and expression in Cuba following the Revolution. Although they range in style, the works share a common message of harmony, unity, family and reflect today’s Cuban society.
Reynier Llanes was born in Pinar del Rio in 1985. He completed his training at Instructores de Arte, and then went on to develop his skills under the instruction of Juan Miguel Suarez. Feeling limited by the Cuban government in what he could accomplish, Llanes moved to the United States in 2007. He now lives in Charleston and works closely with artist Jonathan Green. Through his work, he hopes to preserve his cultural heritage, while educating and inspiring others.
